Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Finalize Divorce After 8-Year Legal Battle

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally settled their divorce after an eight-year legal battle, marking the end of one of Hollywood‘s most high-profile and contentious splits. The settlement was finalized with a default declaration filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, bringing some closure to a process that began in September 2016 when Jolie filed to dissolve their two-year marriage.

Jolie’s Statement and Emotional Toll

Jolie, 49, expressed mixed emotions through her lawyer, James Simon, stating, “Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.” Despite the prolonged legal fight, Jolie reportedly remains focused on her family and has refrained from publicly criticizing Pitt, 61. “She doesn’t speak ill of him publicly or privately,” a source close to Jolie told Entertainment Weekly.

The source added that the actress has prioritized teaching her children resilience and advocacy, saying, “The kids have grown up seeing that some people have so much power and privilege that their voices don’t matter. Their pain doesn’t count.”

The Private Jet Incident and Legal Battles

Jolie’s initial filing came shortly after an incident on a private jet in which she accused Pitt of physical abuse toward her and their children. The claims led to investigations by the F.B.I. and child services, both of which were closed without charges or findings of abuse. However, the event cast a long shadow over the proceedings and their family dynamic.

In 2022, an F.B.I. report on the matter surfaced, revealing discussions between investigators and attorneys, though it ultimately concluded that criminal charges would not be pursued.

Custody and Assets

The couple shares six children, though custody arrangements now only apply to their 16-year-old twins, Knox and Vivienne, as the others have reached adulthood. Notably, their daughter Shiloh, 18, successfully petitioned earlier this year to remove Pitt’s last name from hers, with her lawyer attributing the decision to “painful events.”

As part of the settlement, both parties waived the right to future spousal financial support. However, details about asset division, including the couple’s contentious dispute over their French winery, remain unclear.

What’s Next?

While this settlement resolves their divorce, it may not mark the end of their legal entanglements. Jolie has previously called for Pitt to “stop the fighting” and drop the winery lawsuit, hinting at ongoing tensions.

For now, Jolie is focusing on moving forward, while Pitt has largely remained silent on the proceedings. Their journey highlights the complexities of high-profile divorces and the challenges of navigating family dynamics in the public eye.
