Guy Ritchie, John Krasinski, and Natalie Portman Reveal First Look at Fountain of Youth: ‘In the Vein of Indiana Jones’

Guy Ritchie, known for his signature style of gangster comedies and spy thrillers, is taking on a new adventure with Fountain of Youth. The family-friendly action-adventure film, set to premiere on Apple TV+, promises to deliver the scale and excitement of a modern Indiana Jones.

In Fountain of Youth, siblings Luke and Charlotte Purdue, played by John Krasinski and Natalie Portman, reunite for a global treasure hunt to locate the mythical Fountain of Youth. Written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), the story blends archeology, family dynamics, and high-stakes action.

A Dynamic Duo: Krasinski and Portman

Krasinski, playing the adventurous and free-spirited Luke, describes his character as “the definition of ‘live life to the fullest.'” In contrast, Portman’s Charlotte is grounded and stable but drawn back into adventure by her brother. Portman says, “It was fun playing a woman who’s finding her wildness again.”

The chemistry between the two leads forms the emotional core of the film, with Portman noting that the siblings’ dynamic drives much of the story’s humor and heart.

High-Octane Action Across the Globe

Ritchie and the cast embarked on a real-life adventure to film the movie, with locations spanning Cairo, Bangkok, Vienna, and Liverpool. The production also featured intricate stunts, including a sunken ship sequence filmed in London.

“It was always an epic day with wild stunts and scenarios to tackle,” Portman shared. “Just the most fun you can have, really.”

Eiza González, who plays Esme, a mysterious and fearless protector, praised the physically demanding action scenes, saying, “It was a huge learning experience, and I’m very happy with the result.”

A Stellar Supporting Cast

Joining Krasinski and Portman is an ensemble that includes Domhnall Gleeson, Stanley Tucci, and Eiza González. González, working with Ritchie for the third time, called the experience both challenging and rewarding, adding, “We truly laughed all day long.”

Ritchie, too, was full of praise for his cast, dubbing Krasinski a “soldier of the highest order” and calling Portman “inexplicably fantastic.”

Relentless Action and Family Appeal

Ritchie teased that the film’s scale surpasses even his 2024 hit The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. “It’s an expensive film — three times the budget of Ministry,” he said. “It’s pretty relentless once the action starts.”

Despite its blockbuster scope, Ritchie emphasized the film’s accessibility, aiming to appeal to audiences of all ages. “I make movies for myself or my family,” he said. “There’s something in there for everyone.”

A Passion Project

Fountain of Youth marks Ritchie’s eighth film since 2019’s Aladdin, and the director shows no signs of slowing down. “I’m just enjoying it more than I’ve ever enjoyed it,” Ritchie said, describing the film as a thrilling departure from his usual genres.

For Ritchie, Fountain of Youth is more than just an adventure film — it’s a celebration of storytelling, family, and cinematic magic. Audiences can dive into the action when Fountain of Youth premieres on Apple TV+ in 2025.
