Josh Brolin recently opened up about a surreal evening with Donald Trump, recounting an encounter that still leaves him “wigged out.” During an interview on In Depth With Graham Bensinger, the Dune: Part Two star described a dinner in 2010 at New York City’s iconic 21 Club with Trump, his wife Melania, director Oliver Stone, and actor Shia LaBeouf.
A Night to Remember (or Forget)
The evening began with Brolin and company heading to Trump’s apartment, where the then-businessman showed off his view and shared an emotional story about watching the Twin Towers collapse on 9/11.
“He was very emotional about it,” Brolin said.
But things took an odd turn when Brolin, an architecture enthusiast, asked to see more of the home, specifically the upstairs.
The Twilight Zone Moment
“And I said, ‘Can I see upstairs?’ He said, ‘Our bedroom.’ And I said, ‘Can I see upstairs?’ He said, ‘Yeah.’ And then nobody moved,” Brolin explained. “And I said, ‘Cool. So should we go up?’ And he said, ‘Yeah.’ And then he still didn’t move.”
Describing the moment as feeling straight out of The Twilight Zone, Brolin looked to Stone and LaBeouf for clarity, but they were equally confused. Brolin pressed Trump a third time, only for the scenario to repeat itself.
“It was like he couldn’t not say no, but he wasn’t going to get out of the way of the thing,” Brolin recalled. “It meant no, but he said yes.”
Lingering Confusion
The silence grew unbearable, and the actor decided to cut his losses. “I said, ‘Well, thanks for having us here. I really appreciate it.’ He goes, ‘Yeah, no problem.’ And we shook his hand and all that. It was the weirdest f—ing moment. I still get wigged out by it.”
Reflecting on the bizarre encounter, Brolin added, “I don’t know what was happening — I still don’t to this day.”
Trump’s $20 Loan
Bensinger also brought up an anecdote about Trump lending Brolin $20 that evening, though details about how or why that happened were not expanded upon.
