Jamie Lee Curtis brought her signature wit and humor to The View on Dec. 20, delighting the audience and hosts alike with gifts—and a candid take on her relationship with the holiday season.
The Halloween actress, known for her mix of charm and irreverence, playfully described herself as “Scrooge’s slightly slutty sister” while handing out presents to cohosts Joy Behar, Alyssa Farrah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines. Her declaration elicited laughter, with Behar quipping, “Slightly?” Curtis, leaning into the joke, replied, “Hey now! I’m an old married lady, but back in the day… you know.”
A “Scroogey” Take on the Holidays
Curtis elaborated on her mixed feelings about the festive season, citing the overwhelming pressure of the “holiday industrial complex.”
“In New York City, the tree is beautiful, I get the feeling of it,” Curtis explained. “But there’s so much obligation. It’s like the beauty industrial complex or the cosmeceutical complex—it makes you feel like if you’re not doing more, you’re not good enough. And I’m just over it.”
Despite her self-proclaimed Scrooge-like tendencies, Curtis is widely known for her generosity. Her My Hand In Yours foundation, launched in 2020, donates 100% of its proceeds to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Curtis regularly gifts items from the foundation—like tote bags and wind chimes—to friends, colleagues, and charity events, blending philanthropy with personal connection.
A History of Holiday Spirit
Curtis has also embraced Christmas on-screen. She starred alongside Tim Allen in the 2004 comedy Christmas With the Kranks, a film about a couple trying to skip the holidays but ultimately embracing the season. She also appeared in Trading Places (1983), where her character features in a memorable holiday party scene alongside Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy.
Though Curtis might declare herself “over” the holidays, her actions—both on-screen and off—suggest otherwise. Whether sharing laughter, thoughtful gifts, or charitable efforts, Curtis continues to embody the spirit of giving, even if she delivers it with a Scrooge-like twist.
The View will return from its holiday break on Jan. 6, 2025. The show airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on ABC.
