Sophie Turner recently opened up about her split from ex-husband Joe Jonas and shared her thoughts on what comes next in her personal life and career. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the Game of Thrones actress described the divorce as “incredibly sad,” while also recognizing the positive moments they shared. “We had a beautiful relationship, and it was hard,” Turner said, reflecting on her journey with the “Cake by the Ocean” singer.
Turner, 28, and Jonas, 35, married in 2019 after dating for three years. The former couple, who share two children, made headlines throughout their split, especially after Jonas filed for divorce in September 2023. Legal proceedings and media attention followed until the pair reached a settlement a year later.
Life in the U.S. and the Decision to Return Home
Turner also opened up about her discomfort living in the United States, citing mounting social issues. “The gun violence, Roe v. Wade being overturned… Everything just kind of piled on,” Turner said. After the tragic Uvalde school shooting, she decided it was time to return to the United Kingdom. “I knew it was time to get the f— out of there,” she recalled.
Back in her native England, Turner feels more at ease, surrounded by family and friends. “I’m so happy to be back,” she shared. “It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England.” The actress expressed that her time in the U.S. kept her from experiencing pivotal life events with close friends. “I went for dinner with someone the other day, and she said, ‘I never got to touch your belly.’ We didn’t have those key experiences together,” she reflected.
Moving On with New Romance
Turner has since found love again with English aristocrat Peregrine Pearson. “We’re very happy,” she revealed. “It came around very quickly… He’s lovely, funny, and he brings out the cheeky side of me, the fun side. He lights me back up.”
Channeling Real-Life Emotions into New Roles
Turner’s recent role in Trust, an upcoming psychological thriller, gave her a chance to process some of the intense emotions following her split. “That one really mirrored my life from this past year,” she shared, calling the experience “cathartic.” She felt it was a space to “let out some serious anger, which was fun.”
The actress also recently led the six-part miniseries Joan, a dramatization of the life of real-life criminal Joan Hannington. Turner found her first experience leading a TV series to be uniquely fulfilling and much more personal than her work on blockbuster projects like X-Men. “I had so much say in it, and it was so collaborative… It feels like I’m releasing something that’s very near and dear to my heart.”
For Sophie Turner, the past year has been a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, and she’s embracing her new chapter back home with fresh love and challenging projects. Fans can look forward to seeing Turner’s recent roles that reflect her resilience and passion.
